Alex and Gabe’s badass wedding at UBC

Stylish. Sweet. Funny. Reserved but outgoing. Shy and still somehow up for any weird idea that’s thrown their way. I don’t even know how to accurately describe Alex and Gabe’s Vancouver wedding at Sage Bistro and the Rose Gardens at UBC. But let me try because these two put together such a stunning day that felt classy but edgy and easy but so filled with energy.

We started our day getting ready and snacking on McDonalds at the Parq Hotel in Vancouver, which if you haven’t been there and you’re looking for a getting ready location it’s a great spot! The rooms have so much light and are perfect for those bright and airy shots that make everyone look flawless. Another perk of the hotel is that there’s an awesome “rooftop” patio (it’s actually on the 6th floor) which offers a private location for first look photos.

When I’m planning portraits for my couples I like to take into account who the couple are and what their vibe is. So when I went location scouting I had my eyes peeled for fun pockets of light and out-of-the ordinary locations to help me create something really special for this very fun couple. The result was some kick-ass portraits under a pedestrian bridge that ended up winning multiple awards for Best Group Photo and runner up for Best Wedding Couple with West Coast Wedding Awards. But on top of that we did my favourite collection of wedding party solo portraits that I did in 2022. So definitely keep scrolling to see those.

The rest of the day was equally as magical with stunning light, warm weather, and red accents to speak to their Chinese heritage. The decor team went above and beyond turning the space at Sage Bistro into an elegant floral filled room that felt comfortable and fancy all at the same time. And when the sun went down and the last portraits were done Alex changed into her party outfit and the shots started flowing. You can imagine how fun the dance floor was… or you can just see for yourself.
